Lactate Threshold Testing

In this video, Steve Fried takes me through a lactate threshold test. The test was pretty tough, but the data that we collected was awesome. The lactate threshold test really shows you where you are and what you need to do to improve. Steve shares some valuable insight on lactate threshold testing and how we can apply the data to our training. My test results showed a great deal of efficiency between 190-210W. I can understand this since most of my rides seem to hover in this area. In order to move my T1 (onset of blood lactate accumulation) further out (or up to higher wattage) I need to spend a great deal of time riding in Z2 which based on this lactate threshold test is between 150-180W. The last 6-weeks I will say that almost none of my rides met this criteria. For the next 6-weeks I will be doing 90% of my riding in Z2 and 10% of my riding in Z4 to improve top end speed as well. I will be racing the Clermont Half-Iron at the end of that 6-weeks and also plan on doing another lactate threshold test the Monday before my race to find my new zones! Stay tuned to see the results. In the mean time, I highly encourage you to get your lactate threshold test. As Steve said, make sure you check with your doctor before starting any new exercise routine. Thanks for watching! -Tommy
